Searching for the softness in the great outdoors.
I grew up in Aberdeen, with wild, open countryside just a short skip from my door. After studying design, I moved to Glasgow, where I’ve lived for over 20 years. Drawing has always come naturally, and after years of working creatively in other ways, returning to it felt like coming home. It’s the place I speak from most clearly.
My work is grounded in the landscape. I spend time outside walking, sketching, collecting, and paying close attention. There’s a quiet kind of magic in turning earth into pigment, in drawing with the place itself. Pastels are fragile, easily smudged, often unpredictable, yet they carry extraordinary intensity. I’m drawn to that tension: using something so delicate to describe something so vast, rugged, and raw.
Colour is central to how I work. I use it instinctively and with care, not just to describe what I see, but to distil the feeling of a place. It’s where emotion, memory and landscape meet.
Above all, I hope the work holds a sense of presence. A stillness. A glimpse into the quiet energy of the land.
Alongside my original works and prints, I create commissions based on places that hold meaning for you. If you’d like to know more, feel free to get in touch.
